Why the form matters more than the milligrams
Two numbers decide whether a magnesium supplement does anything: elemental content and bioavailability.
Elemental content is how much actual magnesium sits inside the compound. Magnesium oxide is about 60% magnesium by weight; magnesium bisglycinate is roughly 10–14%, because the two glycine molecules are heavy. That makes oxide look far stronger on a label.

Magnesium oxide

Magnesium L-threonate
